I don’t have as much  time as I would like to photograph families, but when the Toners on Inch Island asked me to come up and take some pictures I had a feeling that this would be a special one. There is a warm place in my heart for Inch Island, ever since Victoria and Robin’s wedding and the lovely welcome I received.  On this occasion, it was no different. I immediately felt at home with Maura, Ciaran and their three adorable children (Colm, Emer and little Dara).

It was a very typical grey and damp Irish winter’s day when I arrived in Donegal, but you could say, that is a true picture of how the weather usually is here. There was a light drizzle the whole afternoon, the advantage of this being that I was able to spend lots more time indoors with them.  And I really got to see how they live. They opened their home and their hearts to me. Colm built me a lego boat and we watched it float in the bath. Emer, who is Colm’s younger sister, devours bread rapidly and chats just as rapidly all at the same time. They both love books and stories read by Mum. A favourite is ‘Guess How Much I Love You’. And last but definitely not least, there is little Dara, who is, quite possibly, the happiest baby I have ever met. Hard to resist a drool and smiles combination.

Thank-you Maura, Ciaran, Colm Emer and Dara.

These are just some of the memories from that rainy day in January 2012 when Paula came to visit.

And Inch Island, “I love you to the moon and back”. Even in the rain.x
