2011 – This Year’s Love

I’ve had the most special Christmas holiday of my life over the last three weeks.  I thank you all for giving me time to enjoy a complete break with my family. Thanks also to those clients who sent me special Christmas and New Years wishes and of course all the facebook chat! I find it strange to call some of you clients, we have become so close in 2011. I did not switch on this computer once. I’ve now realised how very important this break was for me. Sorry I didn’t blog once over Christmas. Most years, I take pictures on Christmas morning as the kids come in to see what Santa left under the tree, but this year I didn’t.  I wanted to experience it with my own eyes, without the camera, to be there in the moment.  Just this once, I wanted it to be our time. There will be lots more personal blogposts throughout the year to make up for it.

Family time consisted of lots of excited preparation for Santa coming, writing to Santa, meeting Santa, tracking Santa, feeding Santa, singing about Santa. I’m all Santa’d out. Also cuddling on the couch watching movies, last minute panic-buys, cold remedies and nose-wiping, cooking and baking together, playing games, fighting over games, cinema trips, way too much chocolate, chocolate highs, comedowns after chocolate highs, discovering thermal heaven in the form of a new electric blanket, walks in the freezing cold and rain with Molly, painting rooms, and get-togethers and, eh, lots of ‘wine-tasting’ with the rest of the clan. And… *whispers* a tiny wee bit of Mulberry shopping at the end. Would it be wrong to say I eagerly awaited the Mulberry January sales more than Christmas itself? Yes? Ok, let’s never speak of this again.

And for the New Year? I’ve decided I would like to cook more at home in 2012. Seanan loves Masterchef, so we’ve been having our very own Junior Masterchef nights and it’s been a big hit. Niamh tastes all the food and tells Seanan how wonderful he is at cooking (charm offensive) and Seanan tries very hard not to smile. They are even eating green food – result! The plan is, the time I usually spend looking at what everyone else is doing with their lives online is being sacrificed for the necessary cooking time. I think its good trade. I’m on a roll at the minute. I made a dinner tonight and everybody ate it without complaint. And just because you have lots of spices in the cupboard, doesn’t mean they have to go in every single dish. Less is more. It’s a revelation!

Before I move on into 2012, and all the promise the new year holds, now is the time to look back over the year that has just passed. A great year. Highlights for me were all the new babies that arrived in 2011, photographing other photographers, revisiting families that I’ve captured before, shooting two bridal editorials with Wedding Journal and making the cover the Autumn issue.  What an adventure! And of course, most important of all, the 2011 Weddings. The people, the love stories, the connections with their kin, the places, the beauty and the details… *sigh* all those things have me still obsessed with this work.

It’s been a fantastic year but  I’m more than ready for 2012 now. There are some really exciting developments going on which I’ll be revealing more about later in the year hopefully. I have my first international Wedding in April. The tickets are booked! There will also be some changes this year as I try to find the perfect balance between work and homelife and the cooking time of course. Unfortunately, I can only take on a small number of portrait bookings and these are usually in the winter time when I’m not shooting weddings.  I would take on more if I could but I have to be realistic about the ’24 hours in a day’ thing. I keep thinking there’s more.

I’ve just opened my inbox this evening. Eek! It’s definitely going to take me a week to get through these so I promise replies soon to anyone who is waiting.  I just want to mention again at this stage, email is the best way to reach me so if your texting, calling, or messaging me on facebook, drop me an email on: info@paulaohara.com just in case I miss it. Plus if your enquiring about 2013 Weddings I can attach the brochure easily.

This blogpost is way too long. Too much information but I’m making up for the weeks off. You probably stopped reading about three paragraphs ago.  For those of you who just like to look at the pictures, here are some wedding moments from 2011…

Please vote for me!

Hello blogreaders.
Hope you’ve been enjoying all the weddings of 2011 on the blog here. It’s been an amazing year thanks to all my wedding clients and their friends and families. I’m not really one for entering competitions or biggin’ it up but I thought it might be fun to have a go this year. Just once I’m going to say this, and it’s like ripping a plaster off so I’m saying it fast, I’ve worked really hard this year and it would be really nice to win something! And just like Misha B, I need your votes! I’m entering in the WeddingsOnline Awards and the Wedding Journal Reader Awards. You don’t even need to pick up a phone, just click on the links and vote in the Wedding Photographer of the Year categories. And thanks so much to everyone who has voted so far.
So I’m off now to Belfast to enjoy the sights and savour the flavours of the continental market. Have a great weekend everyone wherever you are :)

Getting married in 2013?

For all the couples who contacted me this year about their wedding in 2013, I’m thrilled to let you know, the collections are now available!!!

All the information you need to know to book your Wedding is available as a downloadable brochure. So if you like what you see here on the blog and you are interested in booking me as your Photographer, email me on info@paulaohara.com.  My inbox can be extremely busy but it is still the best way to get in touch. I try to answer all emails in the evening when its quiet whereas phonecalls, text/facebook/twitter messages and voicemail can sometimes get missed when I’m out shooting or running after two small kids!!

Let me know where your ceremony and venue is located when you are emailing and any other useful info that you can share at this stage.  I will be meeting couples for album sample showings, coffee, scones and lots of cosy wedding chat over at Ballydougan Pottery Cafe throughout the winter months!  So feel free to get in touch to arrange an appointment – I’d love to hear your wedding story.

x

Share the love…

I just put this post out on facebook and I thought for those non-facebookers it would be good to post it on the blog too.

I’ve seen so much hard graft and effort this year from all the wedding peeps out there. Everyone who works into the wee hours to pull your style together in the best way they can.  Flowers, cars, make-up, hair, dresses, venues, tables, stationery, shoes, cinematography, cakes, cupcakes!, ice cream, candy, even the folks who put wildflowers into masonjars ;) … the list is endless! They’ve made my job so easy. I’d really, really appreciate if my couples from 2011 (and 2010) could share a bit of the love and recommend their favourite suppliers for those couples getting married in 2012. Those who give everything and more to make you feel completely special. We’ve all enjoyed the delights of their work on here in 2011. Lets give it back :)

And here is one of my favourite cakes from this year made by Cakes of Gold, Broughshane for Carolynne and Mark. It’s almost too gorgeous to cut.x

Winter Wedding Journal

Oh me oh my. I’m delighted to post a few shots from the recent Wedding Journal Ireland Magazine shoot!

We went for a seventies glamour shoot this time with a wintery twist. It was shot in the Four Seasons Suite at Galgorm.  What a fantastic venue and it is so suited to the theme with the white leather retro seating and funky lighting. It was wonderful to work on an idea that was completely different from the current vintage theme that seems to be everywhere.  We pulled together ideas  and inspiration from old magazines, LP covers, vogue covers, newspaper clippings, wedding photos from the 70s and more. The girls were taking pictures of my ideas boards which I thought were pretty feeble. Apparently not though so I’m going to do a blogpost on inspiration guides soon. That’s if you would like it!

I am so lucky to work with an amazing team on the Wedding Journal shoots.  Sarah Jayne Cassells always brings the accessories and dresses that pull it together.  I had the very talented girls with me – Jennifer Ireland on make-up and Lynette Ball on hair.  Lynette was recently part of the team that worked on Rihanna’s hair for the ‘We found Love’ video. She is super talented. And of course our model, Kristen Gillespie – you are a star Kristen!  Watch this face. I expect big things for this girl. She is impossibly gorgeous with a great sense of humour. The magazine always get to feature their favourites. But here on this blog, you get to see a few of mine.
