designs for living

This session was from last Autumn and there is a good reason why I haven’t blogged it until now. All these photos were for a  new site and blog! I wanted to make sure it was all live first. I met Sharon through my brother Michael who created the new brand and designed the site. We all worked as a team. I really wish we could do that more often!

Erin Lily

I’m having the time of my life photographing so many gorgeous new babies of late. Just before Christmas I had a very special session with this wee beauty. Erin is Collette and Paul’s new arrival. You might remember our Harley shoot from last year. Collette is an amazing model and I love working with her. And I can’t believe it is humanly possible to look this good 15 days after having a baby! It looks like Erin might be the latest model in the family. So perfect and adorable in the every way.

Molly

Big excitement here this week!! We welcomed home a new family member. Meet Molly the Wheatie!  I think this is what my broodiness has led to. So we are more than happy to have her in the O’Hara Crew as the third child. But it really is like having a new baby in the house! I took her to my bed the first night because of the crying. I was weak. Last night I was strong. She whimpered, then I whimpered, and then… sleep.

It was like Christmas come early for me on Tuesday when I went to pick her up. And when I saw her, my heart melted completely. When you pick Molly up she really hugs. Like a proper ‘arms wrapped around the neck’ hug. And then the face kissing.

She was a little shy at first but is quickly coming out of her shell. Niamh has introduced her to trillions of cuddly friends and the wonders of dressing up.  And she’s keeping me up-to-date on Molly’s list of daily requirements. Funnily,  they seem to be very similar to hers.  “Turn the TV on Mum, Molly wants to watch Dora!”, “Molly likes the Repunzel story at bedtime.”, “Molly wants to sleep in my bed tonight because she has bad dreams and misses her mummy.” “Molly loves custard creams.” Really?

Seanan is not overly excited about the presence of another attention-seeking female in the house.  But both kids have already realised there are advantages to having a mischievous-looking pup around. She get the blame on all sorts of little accidents now.

Needless to say, this has been a week of fun, cuddles and bonding. And of course, the cleaning up of little puddles! I’m sure there will be days when there is poo all over the floor and I won’t be feeling so cheery but we are all about the love right now.

:)

Molly has decided my bed is where its at.

I bought her lots of chew toys but she’d rather eat Seanan’s smelly socks.

New friends

On Saturday afternoon I could hardly contain my excitement. I was going to be meet my favourite dogs ever – the Alaskan Malamute!! My brother Michael came too, as he is serious about having a Malamute in the family some time soon. After meeting the Kianna dogs I am totally smitten. There are five dogs in total in the family pack. The photos here are of Shadow and Mya. I got to say ‘hi’ to Savannah too but she is heavily pregnant and not in any condition for a maternity shoot! Shadow will be a proud, handsome father soon. These top show dogs are used to the limelight, so no camera-shyness here! In fact, a little bit of ‘vogue-ing’ goin on Mya!

It would be hard not to notice their majestic, ‘wolf-like’ appearance but don’t be fooled. Malamutes have been a part of family life for longer than most breeds. I love their story. These heavy-weights didn’t just pull sleighs, they hauled freight! And at night, they bedded down with the tribe and kept everybody warm in freezing temperatures! And after snuggling a Malamute, I can guarantee you, its much nicer than a hot water bottle! They are definitely very much a part of the family at Kianna Valley. Loved so much and loving in return.  I am bursting to meet Shadow and Savannah’s pups! Of course, Savannah is already booked in for her newborn shoot.

How handsome is Shadow!

But like all dogs, if there is something worth rolling in, he’ll find it :)

“Squirrel!!!”

~

I failed miserably in my doggy action shots. Every time I got a lock on he was gone. Really, he was just a blur to me as he belted past.

~

He does stop for a belly rub though.

~

Most charming thing about Malamutes: Their happy, laughing faces!

~

Marcus with Shadow. They are best friends forever.

And this is Mya workin it from the tip of her moist pink nose to the end of her bushy tail. Move over Tyra Banks!

~

Her coat is pale and and warm grey. Her eyes are amber where Shadows are more chocolate. I could gush alot about her good looks.

Thank-you so much to the team at Kianna Malamutes for giving us this beautiful opportunity to meet the family. Can’t wait to see you all again soon!

Alexa, Alistair, Ella & Oliver

They are my first international clients flying in from Manchester last Saturday morning for their shoot. Well, it is sort of international  – Alexa is American.

Alistair and Alexa met at University. St. Andrews in Scotland to be exact. Alistair was studying to become a doctor and Anthropology was Alexa’s specialism. He was English and she was from Arizona, (my second client originally from Arizona, and no connection!). During that time whilst they were dating, Alistair managed 12-hour journeys to see Alexa at the weekends!
And now… just look at the beautiful family they have become! Alexa is a fantastic photographer herself. She found me through flickr and liked my blog.  Alexa has lots of gorgeous pictures of her kids, but really wanted some more photos with her included. I know how this feels!

On Saturday morning I hoped for sunshine but it was not to be. It rained all day! But it did not stop us from enjoying ourselves and we managed to have a great shoot despite the Irish weather. We also met the next day for 30 mins of dry weather!  The Ulster Museum and the glass house at Botanic Gardens are fab indoor areas for photos.

I love working with families like this! They laugh, play and cuddle easily together. Thank-you Alexa for allowing me to do this for you. It was lovely to meet you all and I’m so glad you made the trip to Norn Iron! Here are some of the shots.

Oliver has to be one of the cutest, happiest babies I’ve ever photographed. Seriously, little old ladies in the museum were stopping to admire him, and he was a complete charmer every time! Look at those cheeks :)

And this is the gorgeous Ella, who was completely unperturbed by the camera. These are the advantages of shooting a photographer’s child!

The Ulster Museum has a room upstairs with lots of activities for kids, dressing up, drawing, jigsaws, plus a few nicely placed large windows to add a bit of light. Ella is jigsaw whiz!

I love this next set of Alexa and Oliver…
