Growing up

“If growing up means it would be beneath my dignity to climb a tree, I’ll never grow up, never grow up, never grow up! Not me!”
- J.M. Barrie ~ Peter Pan

Niamh loves dressing up and make-up. Five dress changes a day at least. And doing her eyes, making lips sparkle and painting her nails. Even Mr Twitches was wearing lipstick and eyeshadow today. And already the question, “When will I be grown up Mummy?”

Not too soon sweetheart. Never too soon.

Erin

I’m delighted to post a quick Erin update. I caught up with the gorgeous family that is Collette, Paul and Erin last week again.
It’s been over six months since I photographed Erin in her first days of life as a brand new person. That was on one of the coldest, snowiest mornings of the year. And now here we are, mid-summer with Erin sat up in the grass, smiling at all of the crazy adults, toes wiggling in the daisies. She is turning out to be one the happiest, prettiest babies I’ve ever seen. Lots of funny faces here. I love this stage. Sessions with babies at this age are always the most amusing. Their designed to make you say “Awwww!!!”And it’s great to back to see the wee ‘Harley’ gang again! We always have a good laugh together. It was such a warm, summer’s evening so we got to do these outside just before Erin’s snoozy time :) Seriously, I’m so in love with sunny days and long evenings. This is my absolute favourite time of the year for doing portraits and Weddings.

Janine & Andy

Sorry for my absence this week. I’ve hardly had time for blogging, facebooking and tweeting. I was in County Carlow for a few dayson a very big shoot and I had lots of preparing to do!  There will be more on that fab experience at a later date, but in the meantime, I’m going to start this blogfest with Janine and Andy.

Vintage Bridal shoot

I’m so lucky to have opportunities, throughout the year, to work with such an amazing team of creatives.  We are soooo on the same wavelength with ideas.  In fact Lynette even has some of the same tear sheets as me! We had been planning another vintage bridal shoot for a while. These creative shoots are great fun but also really important for photographers. They allow that time to be alot more experimental with ideas and styling. I was super excited to be working with a male and female model. Both were absolutely brilliant and perfect for this. Everything came together perfectly in the end.  I just want to say to Nikita Tully, you blew me away with the styling on this! I was like a child in a sweet shop when I saw the dresses and all the bits and pieces you had gathered up:) Thanks to everyone involved for a super job as always. Here are quite a few pics…

Just as you are

When I met this family for a shoot last week I immediately relaxed in their company. Maria just wanted me to come over and capture this stage with her beautiful kids, Faye, John and Libby Rose, just being themselves, playing in the backyard. They have just recently had gorgeous wee Libby,  and I could see that they were just appreciating every single moment of them. And loving having that baby stage back again.

We both shared the same vision of how this should be. A backyard session. I love to capture my own kids in this very same way. These are our memories. When I was a child, we never had a studio sitting, so I don’t know how that feels. But what we do have are albums full of memories. Hosing each other down on summer days, playing with new toys on Christmas morning, hanging out in makeshift huts, climbing trees, hugging much-loved pets, holidays in Butlin’s, digging in the sand at Tyrella beach, all the stuff that I would want to remember.

I hope they will come to cherish these photos the way I cherish mine. Thank-you for showing me your true selves. Just as you are.
