Wide awake & beautiful.

I visited with Paddy when he was ten days old. I’m so delighted to finally meet Stephanie and Dermot’s gorgeous wee man and I know Stephanie was just as excited for this shoot. You’ll know their faces because I photographed their gorgeous wedding at Corick House in 2010.
What a sweetheart. He was wide awake, and intent on taking everything in. Sometimes babies aren’t sleepy on the day that I visit. And that’s perfectly okay with me. I don’t want parents to feel that they have to be sleeping to have one of these sessions. Yes, there are lots of baby poses you can achieve when they are snoozing away, but sometimes seeing them as they are, in a true moment, is just as worthwhile. And Paddy has so much character to reveal when he is awake. It is just as important for babies to have days when they just want to feed, or cuddle or cry. All these things are as natural to a new baby as sleeping, and every moment is worth remembering. As always, my favourite shots of babies are when they are finally in the arms of their parents. Whether they are awake or sleeping, it is definitely their most favourite place :)

Sleep in heavenly peace…

At this time of year I couldn’t resist a slideshow like this. Babies from last winter and this one…

Riley

“All is calm…”

This is one of my favourite newborn sessions. It was a very peaceful session. Riley is such a quiet, relaxed, happy baby. I get that vibe from his Mum and Dad too so it must be a family thing. I like newborn sessions that are relaxed. Sometimes that’s not always the case. It really does depend on the babies and how much time you give them. They are worth waiting on. I’ve shot with Nikki before so I think this really helped as she knew I’d keep things very simple and easy. Riley wasn’t sleeping when I got there. He was awake for a while, just kicking his legs, stretching his arms and making the most adorable ‘cooing’ baby sounds. He loves his mum stroking his cheek. I took some of pictures of that too. My favourites are those quiet ‘skin-to-skin’ images of Riley tucked into the arms of his mum. Just where he wanted to be.

Sophie

It was a joy to meet with two of my favourite clients again, to welcome their new addition, nine week old Sophie.

I photographed Alex and Kristine’s Wedding at Lissanoure last year. One of the most beautiful Weddings I’ve ever had the pleasure of capturing in fact. *sigh*

They live in Scotland and they couldn’t make it over with Sophie at the newborn stage. In a way, I’m glad we waited though, because I got to see her at this extremely cherubic stage instead :) I’ve got loads of photos of Sophie, but I really like this set of frames together. Those are the most kissable cheeks I’ve ever seen. And the rolls and creases… She’s just completely edible. Beautiful parents, beautiful baby and lots of love…
