A close friend shared this quote with me. It’s played in my mind since then, and I’m happy now I have found the right place for it. With these photos of Sarah, Troy and Henry.
In the month of March, on a very cold Spring day, one little boy called Henry arrived into the world. A few days later I had the honour of taking some pictures of him. And the pleasure of feeling the warm embrace of this natural, easy affection and bond that has so quickly grown between them all. Sarah is just so in love with her boy already. He’s the youngest I’ve ever photographed at just four days. I love that they trusted me and let me into their home at this really precious time. Although it’s a new house, it’s definitely a ‘home’ already filled with love and warmth and yummy food! I didn’t want to leave. It’s always lovely to be able to give pictures to one who is normally taking pictures for everyone else. Now it’s Sarah’s turn for some joy of her own.
I shoot so many grand and stylised events, but it’s good to slow down sometimes and document those real, intimate stages in our lives. Like the birth of a first born child. And that sleepy, foggy love that sees its first beginnings in the early days home from hospital when there is just the three of you. When your world shifts, and all your hopes, and fears are now wrapped up that new person in your arms. These photos will help them remember. Thank-you Troy and Sarah.x
Probably my most favourite newborn image ever that I have taken so far. The time spent waiting on a newborn session for the right moment is so worth it when this happens. The wrinkles, her touch, the vulnerability, the quiet tenderness…
The best way to settle a baby. On daddy’s warm chest, close to his heart. What father doesn’t know this feeling? Nursing their new son for hours in a bubble of newfound contentment.
